Carpet Cleaning Hacks At Home

Top Carpet Cleaning DIY Home Hacks

As much as we’d all like our carpets to be in tip top condition 24/7, life can happen, bringing with it little spills and stains along the way. That’s why we’ve put together a list of top carpet cleaning hacks that will come in handy if you don’t have a carpet cleaner immediately to hand.

Don’t rub stains

When you rub a stain, it causes particles to separate and become ground into carpet fibres, which will then lead to premature breakdown of those fibres. This is obviously bad news for your carpet. However, if you blot your stains rather than rub them, you will be able to put a small amount of pressure on the stain which will help to soak it up. The best way to blot a stain is to work from the outside of the stain inward. If you blot the stain the other way, you could cause the stain to spread further.

Freeze trodden in gum

We’ve all been in the situation where we’ve unknowingly trodden in chewing gum and walked it into our home. Annoying for us, and bad news for our carpets! So how can you get rid of any gum without ruining your carpet? Ice cubes. Freeze the gum with ice cubes for about 30 seconds, and once the gum is frozen solid use a spoon to lift the gum upwards, whilst carefully trimming it away from the carpet (cutting as close to the gum as possible.)

Candle wax

Whether it’s from an over-exaggerated blowing out of the candles on a birthday cake, to everyday candles burning away, it can be quite easy for wax to find its way into your carpet and stay there. However, with this handy hack, any melted in wax will be gone in no time. First you’ll need to grab your iron and a white cloth. Place your white cloth over the melted wax and put your iron on top. This will warm up the wax, making it easy for you scrape the wax up with a butter knife.
Combat crushed sweets and candy
Whilst we enjoy our sugary treats from time to time, our carpets aren’t too keen. The best way to remove trodden in sweets and food is to try and scrape it out with a brush or butter knife, and then use and sponge and water to get the sugar out of the carpet. If you don’t remove all of the sugar then your carpet will attract dirt and debris more easily.

Pet Hair

We love our pets, but their hair can cause our carpets problems. Simply vacuuming is not enough, but that’s ok. All you need to do is don a pair of rubber gloves and rub the carpet until your bring the hair up in clumps. If you don’t have any rubber gloves you could use something like a squeegee.

Another Hoarder Clean Up 2017

Hoarder Cleaning Services Somerset

We have had over 7 years experience with handling the sensitive nature of hoarder property cleanups and restoration. Some mental issues include the feeling of not being able to release, and don’t like to throw things away. Often this is coupled with a restricted access in their garden to the bins or to hire a skip. Crawfordsprc respect each and every job requirement and provide high levels of dignity whilst cleaning a property.

Other reasons include situations whereby a lady was no longer mobile and was unable to pick up dropped items onto the floor around her property. Whilst it could be considered awful, working with less able people who drop coffee, soup or other food items it’s impossible to clean without help.

Steps to cleaning this project and recycling of waste

  • Somerset based rented property
  • This took 5 people 2 working days
  • Two van loads of waste materials to be recycled with the local waste company Towens

We are called in by different agencies which could include the reasons because a client has had a fall and the Emergency Services have highlighted the situation. Also it could be because a person is in hospital and it’s not safe to release and return home without a clean toi ensure safety and optimum healthy limits.

Flea Treatment Weston super Mare Carpet Steam Cleaned Somerset Cat DogBefore carpets get cleaned the rooms need to be treated for fleas – like a flea bomb or professional spray treatment bought from a vet. Avoid buying supermarket products off the shelf, call your local vet for their recommendations

Flea bombs must be lit over a sink (as it’s almost a firework) as a consequence the bomb get very hot so the only recommended containment receptacle is a metal saucepan or a similar. Once it’s been lit over a bath or a sink, as lighting the bomb / firework it’s possible that sparks can fly off and damage bedding / linen / carpets.

Flea Bomb and 24 Hour Treatment

Once the flea bomb has been lit and you have taken care to follow the operating instructions, your property is now ready to be cleaned with our superior truck mounted system with super heated water. A typical 2 bedroom house will take around 2-3 hours from top to bottom.

Remember to administer flea treatments to your pets regularly. Flea eggs are small, white objects (slightly smaller than a grain of sand) that are laid in the pet’s fur in bunches of about 20. A single adult female can lay about 40 eggs every day. Fleas can be difficult to eliminate, but if you are vigilant and use the correct chemicals in a safe and effective manner, you will be victorious. Just be sure to treat all the areas where your pet spends time, including the car and garage for example.

Red Wine Spill On Carpet

Using Salt To Help With Wine Stains on Carpet

We found this great article on WikiHow to help remove red wine stains spilled on carpets.

Salt – the 3 step solution to cleaning carpet spills

Pour salt over the stain while it’s still wet. A good dabbing job will take most of the wine out of the carpet, but usually not all of it. To help get the rest out, try covering the stained spot with a generous portion of salt. The salt granules will gradually draw the moisture in the stain out of the carpet over the next few hours.

  1. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 16.jpg

Since the salt works by absorbing the stain’s moisture, this is much less effective for dried stains. If your stain is getting dry, pour a little water on it first before adding the salt.

  2. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 17.jpg

Let the salt sit. As it absorbs the wine, the salt will gradually turn pinkish. You’re ready to proceed when the stain seems almost completely dry. However, longer treatments aren’t going to make things worse, so if you have time to spare, feel free to let the salt sit overnight.
  3. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 18.jpg

Discard the excess salt and vacuum up the carpet. Scoop away the loose salt with a spoon and throw it out. Use a vacuum to suck up the fine particles that remain and get your carpet looking brand-new again. The stain should be gone or at least greatly diminished.

If a salty residue remains after the first vacuuming, just dampen the area with a little cool water and vacuum again to restore its natural texture. Read the original article here.

Hotel Carpet Cleaning Weston super Mare

Richmond Hotel Weston-super-Mare

Crawfords PRC Ltd have now been cleaning the carpets at the Richmond Hotel for over 8 years. Situated on the sea front, it’s natural that the volume of footfall in this busy hotel will result in deep inground dirt (and sand!) from the footwear of the guests.
The Owner – Jonathan – always takes pride in the hotels appearance as one of the few hotels with a fabulous sea view and a true Weston Pier view at that. We saved Jonathan some cash by cleaning his carpets back to original condition.

Here’s what Jonathan said on his Hotel blog:
We were contemplating moving across to Parque flooring in the busy dining room – however Andy and Kaz at CrawfordsPRC have done such a great job cleaning my carpets that I shall be putting it off for the foreseeable future. You can see for yourselves the lovely condition the carpets are in, not a stain or spot of dirt.

Richmond Hotel Improvements

Over the years we have seen the hotel continue to improve all of its rooms and facilities. Jonathan always takes pride in the hotels appearance as one of the few hotels with a true Sea view and a True Weston Pier view at that. My family and friends have used the hotel on several occasions and always found the rooms to very clean, well presented and smelling fresh not stale like some of its neighbours. The addition of the new bar has been well received of an evening plus with the excellent views The Richmond is the ideal venue for small meetings and receptions/parties.
Jonathan is an excellent host, always willing to help guests and provide food & drink along with his wealth of knowledge on visiting places around weston and what events are being held. The Richmond is a family run hotel for families and friends who will enjoy their stay in the ever improving rooms every day.
