Emergency Christmas Carpet Cleaning Tips

Emergency Christmas and New Year Cleaning Home Remedies

From the accidental Christmas chocolates trodden into the carpet, to those clumsy red wine spills that happen on New Year’s Eve, we’ve got the best cleaning home remedies for ridding your carpets of the most common Christmas and New Year’s stains.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but for our carpets it’s a completely different story. From the accidental Christmas chocolates that are dropped and trodden into the carpet in the frenzy that is Christmas morning, to those clumsy red wine spills that happen on New Year’s Eve or even just the increase in foot traffic around the house. Chances are your carpets are going to experience some heavy use  over the holiday period.

For those unexpected spills where there isn’t a cleaner on hand and the shops aren’t open, we’ve got the best cleaning home remedies for ridding your carpets of the most common Christmas and New Year’s stains.

Cranberry Sauce

Sometimes our beloved favourites can escape the plate and end up on the carpet. However, your carpets needn’t suffer. For a simple home remedy all you’ll need is a tablespoon of hand dishwasher liquid mixed together with two cups of water. With a clean white cloth, simply wet cloth in the mixture and gently blot the stain until all the liquid is absorbed. Repeat until the stain has disappeared.

Red/Mulled Wine

Christmas is a time for celebration and many enjoy a glass of red wine, or even mulled wine since it is the season, but when our drinks end up hitting the carpet instead of our mouths it can be a bit less cheery. Not to worry though, we’ve got a cleaning hack that will help remove that stain as much as possible. Begin by grabbing a white dish cloth or paper towel and start blotting the carpet to remove as much of the wine as you can. After you’ve got out as much of the liquid as you can, pour a little bit of cold water onto the stain, this will help dilute the stain and make the blotting easier. Once it appears that no more wine will come up, create a baking soda paste by mixing a ratio of three to one water to baking soda ration and applying it to the area. After the paste has dried all you’ll need to do is vacuum the stain.

Chocolate
Chocolate treats are a tradition in many a household over the festive period, and one too many times carpets see their fair share of these goodies also. If you find yourself in this predicament over Christmas then there’s no need to worry. First, grab a butter knife and try and scrape the chocolate off the carpet. Once the chocolate has been removed apply a mixture of ¼ teaspoon of mild white detergent and one cup of room temperature water, then with a white cloth work your way from the outer edge of the stain to the middle, blotting not rubbing.

Beer

If beer is more your beverage of choice over the holiday period, we’ve got a cleaning tip  for getting those stains out of the carpet too. Once you’ve got a clean white paper towel or cloth, begin blotting up as much of the spilled beer as possible. Then, use two cups of plain warm water mixed with a tablespoon of hand dishwasher liquid and a table spoon of white vinegar to blot the stain away.

Smoke and Tar Ladened Property Gets Facelift

We were called to this property which, over many years, had the by effects of smoking cigarettes without adequate ventilation, opening windows, etc. This also means it’s very hard for visitors due to the fumes or even little things like handling food or wiping down surfaces.

We washed the walls in placed, for example in the stairway.

Everything is by hand, from degreasing the windows to wiping the doors and door frames. This has to be completed in advance of steam cleaning the carpets to ensure all dirt falls onto the carpet ready for us to clean.

  • Two full days of work for this single bedroom flat
  • Three people to tackle the project

Red Wine Spill On Carpet

Using Salt To Help With Wine Stains on Carpet

We found this great article on WikiHow to help remove red wine stains spilled on carpets.

Salt – the 3 step solution to cleaning carpet spills

Pour salt over the stain while it’s still wet. A good dabbing job will take most of the wine out of the carpet, but usually not all of it. To help get the rest out, try covering the stained spot with a generous portion of salt. The salt granules will gradually draw the moisture in the stain out of the carpet over the next few hours.

  1. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 16.jpg

Since the salt works by absorbing the stain’s moisture, this is much less effective for dried stains. If your stain is getting dry, pour a little water on it first before adding the salt.

  2. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 17.jpg

Let the salt sit. As it absorbs the wine, the salt will gradually turn pinkish. You’re ready to proceed when the stain seems almost completely dry. However, longer treatments aren’t going to make things worse, so if you have time to spare, feel free to let the salt sit overnight.
  3. Remove Red Wine from Carpet Step 18.jpg

Discard the excess salt and vacuum up the carpet. Scoop away the loose salt with a spoon and throw it out. Use a vacuum to suck up the fine particles that remain and get your carpet looking brand-new again. The stain should be gone or at least greatly diminished.

If a salty residue remains after the first vacuuming, just dampen the area with a little cool water and vacuum again to restore its natural texture. Read the original article here.

Carpet Cleaning Andy Crawfords Weston super Mare Somerset

Andy is pictured here in August 2014 with his equipment and van at a local residential project which was a 3 storey Victorian town house in Weston-super-Mare.

The carpets had never been steam cleaned and with 4 flights of stairs, a main walkway through 2 rooms and 3 landings the industrial equipment made light work, completing the whole project in 90 minutes.

Karon and Andy work as a team, with the pipes pumping out clean water steam, with particularly bad areas hand sprayed with a cleaning solution that’s safe for pets and people.

It’s this kind of dedication to every spot and corner of a room that provides CrawfordsPRC with their reputation.
